Time to build a still
[Banjo] [6/8 time signature ] [upbeat]
As liquor prices rise, my will to care dies,
The fact is, you can tariff barley and tax rye.
But you can't stop the spirit that refuses to comply—
I can make my own from anything under this dark blue sky.
Forget going to bars to spend my pay,
It's time to build a still and mash by day.
I can make wine to drink when I dine,
And craft my own whiskey, wild and fine.
I'll gather the grains, the fruit, and the yeast,
Turn humble ingredients into a liquid feast.
Under the moonlight, the copper will gleam,
A homemade elixir, a bootlegger's dream.
[Fiddle]
No overpriced bottles, no tariffs to fight,
Just me and my still in the dead of night.
I'll make my spirits the old American way,
In the backwoods where the rebels play.
I can figure this all out—that’s what I’m about.
To the government I’ll proudly shout:
Keep your rules and your liquor axes—
I’ll drink to freedom—skip your taxes!
Your tariffs? Ha ha , I'll buy some copper.
[ Female Narrator]
Deep in the forest, I will craft my shine,
With pine nuts, birch bark, and mushrooms I find.
The scent of pine and earthy bark combine,
Infused with nature's design, so divine.
White lightning sparks my brew to life,
Firewater cuts through with boldness and strife.
Wild herbs we forage, their essence embrace,
Creating a moonshine of untamed grace.
"So you add your tariff, I'll shine for free,
I'll make all my friends happy, wild and carefree.
With my white lightning and my firewater, we'll dance in the night,
Our forest shine, a secret delight shared with love and light."
We will all drink and dance while you pick your tariff fight.
My old American will has the know-how to build a copper still.
As liquor tariffs rise, this isn’t new,
From 1791’s whiskey tax to rebellion’s brew.
The spirit of resistance still burns bright,
I’ll craft my shine under the moon’s soft light.
This ain't the first time Americans were forced to be outlaws and brew illegally
You can tariff, but I can shine for free
