He was 18 years old,
His first time out fishing in the open ocean,
As sundown approached, dark clouds gathered, and the rain began.
The violent storm hit suddenly.
The wind howled!
Waves crashed over the railings!Lightning lit up the sky!
And thunder shook the boat!
His father yelled, “Go below deck!!“
But it was too late…
A huge wave crashed over the railing!
And the young man was swept overboard…
And I nto the sea…
He cried out in desperation, “Help!!!”
But the sound of the storm drowned out his voice…
No one could hear him, and no one saw him get swept into the sea.
Before long he could no longer fight the violent storm, and he sunk beneath the waves.
It grew quiet as he sunk deeper…
But he desperately needed air!
Just as he reached the point where he could no longer hold his breath,
A face appeared in front of him.
It was the face of the most beautiful girl he had ever seen…
She had emerald green eyes, iridescent blue skin, and long flowing blonde hair.
Suddenly, she reached out and held his face in her hands.
And then she kissed him.
As she did, his desperate need for air disappeared…
And he was able to breathe again…
She took him by the hand, and rapidly swam down, down, down.
To the deepest part of the sea.
The deeper they went the darker it got.
Even though it was dark, he could see.
There were so many fish and other creatures that were swimming around.
And then he saw it…
A radiant, glowing, crystalline palace, sitting on the bottom of the sea!
They entered the palace, and she turned to him and began to speak…
But her lips did not move.
He heard her voice in his head, like it was his own thoughts, but in her voice.
She told him she was the Mermaid Princess.
“My kiss transformed you into a Merman”, she said, “You can now breathe underwater and you are as strong and swift as a shark”
“I saw how bravely you fought the storm, so I saved you.“
“Because of your bravery“, she declared, “you shall be my Merman Prince”
A ceremony was held to make it official.
It felt like a dream. Instead of drowning, he was a Merman Prince married to a beautiful Mermaid Princess.
For the next few years, his life was like a fairytale.
Living in a crystalline palace at the bottom of the sea, married to the beautiful Mermaid Princess…
Until one terrible day…
While they were out hunting…
His beautiful Princess got tangled in a fishing net and he was unable to reach her before the net was hauled up!
He summoned his strength and shot up out of the water, landing on the deck of the ship!!
The sailors were startled.
He rushed to where his princess was laying on the deck and scooped her up in his arms!
He turned and ran towards the railing…
But just as he reached it…
A shot rang out!…
He had been shot in the back…
The bullet lodged in his heart…
His arms went limp…
And his Princess bride fell into the sea…
He fell backwards onto the deck…
Dead!
The captain of the ship rushed over and kneeled beside him…
Seeing his face, he screamed, “My son!“
“What have I done?”
