Still He Called Me

The fire cut cold in the courtyard glare

I tasted fear in the midnight air

They said, “You walked where the Teacher went”

I sold the truth for my own defense

A rooster cried like a final bell

The lie I spoke outshouted my faith

His eyes found mine through the broken crowd

No words, no wrath—just mercy loud

My courage failed me breath by breath

Every promise bled to death

I stood exposed, my strength undone

Ashes where my faith began

I said I don’t know Him

I said I never stood that close

Three times my courage folded

Under fear I chose the ghost

But even in my darkest failure

Love stayed where I fled away

I denied the One who named me

Still He called me by my name

Morning broke on the open shore

A charcoal fire, the ache once more

He spoke my name like I never fell

Three questions where my failure dwelled

Where my denial cut me deep

His mercy reached what shame would keep

Each “Do you love Me?” pulled me through

Till grace stood where my fear once ruled

Now I say I know Him

I’ve seen the kindness in His eyes

Where my weakness spoke the loudest

His forgiveness testified

He never asked for perfect courage

Only truth I couldn’t fake

From broken vows to faithful calling

Grace restored what fear betrayed

If He can lift a fallen man

From guilt to grace by wounded hands

Then hope still lives for all who fail

The risen Lord still breaks our chains
