After working in the hay fields
I saved for a brand new bike
it had all the bells and whistles
it was exactly what I liked
a banana seat and sissy bars
slick tire and shiny paint
the thought of wrecking that masterpiece
made me almost faint
I was afraid to ride it
i cried till I couldn't see
I remember my daddy grinning
when he said these words to me
you have start somewhere
you gotta give it a go
you gotta throw your hat in the ring
you have to get in the show
you gotta get the ball rolling
you gotta dive right in
it's impossible to finish
if you don't begin
years went by as I fought through life
I worked hard to make my way
I buried the fear with callused hands
it was a challenge everyday
late in life, I chased a dream
writing lyrics with a simple tune
I didn't share with anybody
Just hid them in a room
what if the people didn't listen
what if they made fun of me
I never forgot my daddy's words
it's time for me to believe
you have start somewhere
you gotta give it a go
you gotta throw your hat in the ring
you have to get in the show
you gotta get the ball rolling
you gotta dive right in
it's impossible to finish
if you don't begin
so to all my bar room buddies
on Friday afternoon
the work week is finally over
night times coming soon
twist the cap or pop the top
let the fun begin
and drink one for my daddy
and hear his words again
you have start somewhere
you gotta give it a go
you gotta throw your hat in the ring
you have to get in the show
you gotta get the ball rolling
you gotta dive right in
it's impossible to finish
if you don't begin
