Keep that dream alive

When they were threatened by the steps

we took to move ahead

they came to take away the dream

that gave us all a chance.

unflagging in reverse.

When they began to feel the loss

of birthright ranks by caste,

they blotted out the dream again

with nightmares of relapse.

They set back progress with new rules

and shut our voices out

from taking part in what that dream

could do for everyone.

unwilling to collapse.

They’re here once more to take us back

to what they want for us

bereft of all that dream provides

and under their control.

unending in its hope.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be engulfed, every hill shall be exalted and every mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plains and the crooked places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together. This is our hope.

Don’t let them take that dream away.

Come back with all it promises

and overcome them with the hope

that never, ever lets you down.
