A Child's Wish

I was born flesh of your flesh and blood of your blood

You held me and loved me as a parent should

You were there for my joys and defeats

I know I was your very hearts beat

You fed and nurtured me as I grew

How my life would turn out nobody knew

You bought me toys, clothes, and food

You tolerated my ever changing mood

You gave me my walk, talk, and my looks

You taught me through life and books

You held my little hand until I grew

It seemed the answers you always knew

You were there to feed my every dream

Regardless of how out of reach it seemed

You showed me the moon and the stars

And taught me how to manage my money

And to enjoy the days that were sunny

You were there when I needed to talk

You were there to go for a long walk

You taught me the meaning of the honor code

You were often there to ease my load

You were the parent every parent should be

And now you're the angel I feel and see

You're still there when I close my eyes

You still see through all my lies

My arms ache for one more hug

And my heart strings you often tug

I hear your voice when I'm in a bind

I see your face often in my mind

I feel your love every minute of the day

I just wish you hadn't gone away
