I Am A Veteran

I am a veteran

who helped pave the way,

with courage strong,

and spirit high.

I stood my ground,

through storm and strife.

I gave my all,

To answer duty’s faithful call.

In shades of red, white, and blue,

In dust and smoke,

I found my way.

Through trials faced and dreams put by.

I am a veteran who

Beneath the stars,

kept my watch,

In silence strong.

My beliefs I held.

For all that was lost,

and all that was gained.

I am a veteran

whose spirits soared,

though bruised and drained.

In twilight’s glow,

with head held high,

I guarded the peace

that you enjoy now.

I am a veteran.

My hero’s heart

will never die.

I am a veteran

who did their best

to ensure every American

has the right,

to LEGALLY voice

any opinion,

To wave any flag,

To practice any religion,

and back any political party that they may choose.

To see you exercising this legal right

is not a "TRIGGER" for me.

it reminds me,

in fact,

that I did my job well.

I am an American
