The Night Cave Creek Fell

Cave Creek slept in the mountain’s shade

Where ironwood bends and red dust swayed

Watchfires burned on the canyon rim

Men swore no beast would be walking in

In the yard by the smith where the hammers rang

Sat the Baywhar Babe with a broken fang

Stormcastle’s ship with her wings laid bare

While the townfolk worked on her wounded air.

Hold the line for Cave Creek tonight

Blades in the firelight, hearts in the fight

But something dark was waiting to wake

Deep in the blood the Gnar wizard takes

When the bells all rang and the gates swung wide

That’s when the truth cut deep inside

The beasts weren’t breaking the walls that day…

The enemy rose from the souls we saved.

Stormcastle’s children took the wall

Where the canyon wind begins to call

Steel in hand and powder bright

Driving the Gnar from the stones that night

Wyverns screamed and arrows flew

Every beast that came they slew

Cave Creek roared like a lion’s den

With Strongcastle steel among its men.

He raised that arm to the burning sky

And captains turned with hollow eyes

Friends stood still like puppets tied.

The Gnar he planted long ago

Woke like worms in the skull below

Councilmen and captains brave

Felt their thoughts begin to cave

Chains were dropped and the gate swung wide

And the mountain roared with a crawling tide.

But the walls were drowning in claw and bite

Too many beasts and the towers fell

Under the Gnar wizard’s broken spell

Down in the yard through sparks and flame

They ran for the wounded Baywhar Babe

With half-made wings and a coughing roar

She clawed for the sky from the canyon floor.

Rise up now, you broken dame

Fly, old girl, Baywhar Babe

Gnar claws climbing the canyon side

Smoke and fire in the midnight sky

Stormcastle blood at the wheel that day

Dragging the wounded souls away

Barely clearing the mountain’s keep…

While Cave Creek burned in the valley deep.

Now canyon winds through the ruins moan

Past shattered gate and blackened stone

And riders swear when the dusk runs deep

You can hear lost bells of Cave Creek weep

For a town that fought till its final breath…

Till the Gnar turned honor itself to death.
