UPS “B” Went Down
Verse 1
At thirteen hundred in the ECR,
There came a smell from not too far,
A bitter smoke, an acrid bite,
Something wasn’t sitting right.
We checked the towers, row by row,
Found UPS “B” starting to glow,
Batteries cooking, trays gone tight,
Thermal runaway in plain sight.
Chorus
UPS “B” went down today,
Smoking batteries led the way,
Bypass on and charger cold,
Pulled those trays before they rolled.
CSB spares standing by,
New cells ready, stacked up high,
We’ll build her back and check her clean,
Power restored to the ECR scene.
Verse 2
Two racks fused from heat and strain,
Off-gassing smoke left its stain,
Breakers opened, power made safe,
No more charge in that battery case.
Gloves were on and tools were set,
Old trays out before more threat,
Eaton screen showed bypass light,
Keeping the load alive tonight.
Chorus
UPS “B” went down today,
Smoking batteries led the way,
Bypass on and charger cold,
Pulled those trays before they rolled.
CSB spares standing by,
New cells ready, stacked up high,
We’ll build her back and check her clean,
Power restored to the ECR scene.
Bridge
Check the bus and check the leads,
Check the charger, logs, and feeds,
Torque the posts and mark the date,
Don’t return her ’til she’s safe.
Watch the volts and watch the heat,
No more smoke beneath our feet,
If alarms come back again,
Find the fault before the end.
Final Chorus
UPS “B” went down today,
But the crew stepped up right away,
Bypass held and load stayed live,
ECR power did survive.
CSB cells now taking charge,
Battery bank rebuilt at large,
From smoke and smell to steady green,
Back in service for the ECR scene.
