Morning cracks open like a cigarette sky
Sun’s half awake, I’m half getting by
Coffee’s cold but the mind runs loud
Smoke rolls in like a gray soft cloud
Wake and bake, let the world spin slow
Let the day do what it’s gonna do, I don’t know
Birds in the trees with their wild little songs
Eating up worms like nothing’s wrong
Wind shakes the leaves, makes a hollow sound
Like the whole wide world is breathing down
Grass bends low, then it stands back tall
I’m just drifting through it all
I want more smoke but it’s running thin
Trying to stretch what I got within
Little by little, all day long
Keeps me floating, keeps me strong
It keeps my anxiety out of my head
Keeps my depression quiet instead
Sunlight hits but the shadows feel bright
Like everything’s too loud but just right
Wake and bake, feel the morning rise
World comes alive through blurry eyes
Birds chirp sharp like they’re calling my name
Maybe they’re laughing, maybe the same
Wind through branches, whisper and sway
Like it knows things I can’t say
Every leaf got a story to tell
I just listen, I know it well
Sunshine burns but it feels like gold
Even when the thoughts get cold
Sometimes I swear the birds look at me
Like they know more than I can see
Wake and bake, let it all unwind
Leave the heavy thoughts behind
Smoke in the air, time slipping slow
Just another place my mind can go
