Shadows Behind My Eyes

Whispered shadows, closing in

First taste of fear, where I’ve never been

Eyes turned black, a haunting trace

Faced my darkness, stared into space

Fifty years of silent pain

A storm within, breaking the chain

Held in the grip of silent dread

Words unspoken, life feels dead

He hid beneath a fragile guise

Lies in his breath, disguised

But I saw through the disguise

Found my strength, cut the ties

Darkness long, but I found the dawn

Fighting fears that have been drawn

God’s light shows me the way

Patience, trust, I’ll see the day

He may hide, he may lie

But I believe in the why

Confronted shadows, faced my fears

Healing begins, wiping tears

Fear was a thief, stole my breath
