Throwing It Away

In a world where shadows creep,

Each memory a wound too deep,

I gather all the broken ties,

Into bags where lost love lies.

Another day, the sun must rise,

Yet all I see are fading skies,

The dishes clash, the echoes call,

A heart still heavy from the fall.

Crumpled notes and shattered dreams,

Life’s a puzzle bursting at the seams,

Filling trash cans with my past,

A sweeping motion, fading fast.

Throw it away, let it all go,

The ghosts of you, they haunt me so,

Distant memories, a bitter flow,

But to heal, I've got to let it go.

That coffee cup, a dollar spent,

A symbol now of what we meant,

It’s hard to think how love could break,

In every trinket, in every ache.

Voices whisper, "Don’t you dare,"

But finding peace in truth laid bare,

I open up, my heart exposed,

To cleanse my soul, to break the hold.

Throw it away, let it all go,

Running through the streets, a frantic race,

With each step, I confront your face,

Yet when I reach that open door,

I’ll leave behind a love once more.

So I'll park my car near that dumpster bright,

For the love we had, but lived without.

Gone are the days of what used to be,

I’ll learn to set my own heart free.
