Street corner preacher in a beat up suit

But he wasn’t preaching bout a promise land

I stopped to listen just long enough

When he reached out and took my hand

He said, I believe I know you I think we have met before

I looked down at the scars on his hand

I knew right then this was a man I could not ignore

He said

Hey my friend

Where’ve you been

I’ve been waiting on you for awhile

I came a long way

Just for this day

There was something different in his eyes

He said, let me tell you about my life

I know all about yours

I knew right then without a doubt

This is what I’d been praying for

So we sat down and had a cup of coffee

And he told me about his friends

He said some stuck around and some did him wrong

But that’s not where the story ends

He said he’d been tempted and he said he’d been tried

I said, I’ve been through that stuff too

Then he leaned in close and told me some things

And right then and there I knew

He said

Then he stood up and started to go

And tears filled my eyes

He said don’t worry son I’ll always be here

Then he faded from my sight

He said
