There in the darkness,
Bruised and betrayed,
Beaten for preaching
The beautiful Name.
Blood on their shoulders,
Chains on their feet,
Yet heaven was listening
Before they would speak.
No promise of morning,
No prison doors wide.
Just two faithful servants
Choosing Christ.
Worship in the midnight,
When the tears refuse to dry.
When the wounds are still wide open
And the questions fill your mind.
Though the chains were never broken
When they first began to pray,
Paul and Silas lifted Jesus,
They worshipped anyway.
Worship in the midnight,
When your faith is being weighed.
He is worthy in the waiting,
He is worthy in the pain.
If two wounded men could praise Him
From a prison cold and gray,
Then I’ll lift my voice to Heaven,
I’ll worship anyway.
We bend beneath burdens,
We break from the strain.
One unanswered prayer
Can make us walk away.
One word can wound us,
One storm steals our song.
Yet they sang in the suffering
When everything was wrong.
Our comfort is fragile,
Their courage was flame.
Their prison became
A platform for praise.
Worship in the midnight,
When the tears refuse to dry.
When the wounds are still wide open
And the questions fill your mind.
Though the chains were never broken
When they first began to pray,
Paul and Silas lifted Jesus,
They worshipped anyway.
Before the freedom,
Before the dawn,
Before the earthquake,
Before the song was proven right.
They worshipped anyway.
They trusted anyway.
They lifted holy hands
Though they were bound that day.
Not because the prison opened,
Not because the pain had ceased,
But because the King of Glory
Still was worthy of their praise.
So what will I do
When my midnight comes?
Will I magnify my problem,
Or the Holy One?
Worship in the midnight,
When the night won’t let you see.
When your heart is barely beating
And you’re falling to your knees.
For the God who shook that prison
Is the God who’ll make a way.
Whether chains remain or shatter,
I’ll worship anyway.
I’ll worship in the midnight,
Till the morning breaks at last.
For no prison ever fashioned
Can outlive my Savior’s grasp.
Every chain will bow before Him,
Every darkness has a day.
Until then I’ll keep on singing,
I’ll worship anyway.
They worshipped anyway.
So I’ll worship anyway.
Jesus, You are always worthy.
I’ll worship anyway.
