I used to think I’d hear a choir
The day my whole life finally came
Like every dream would knock together
And I’d instantly be someone changed
Instead it happened on a Tuesday
Half-dressed, halfway out the door
Coffee getting cold beside me
Keys still hanging where they were before
I keep saying, “When things settle…”
Like they ever really do
I’ve been saving all my living
For a version of me I haven’t met yet
Maybe I was waiting
For a starting gun that never came
Maybe all this time
I’ve been standing in the race
I catch myself counting summers
Like they’re lining up to leave
Trying to fit tomorrow
Inside a day that’s already full of me
There’s a dress hanging in a closet
With a date stitched into its seams
A passport wearing thinner corners
A map that somehow still leads home to me
Some nights I lie awake beside you
Wondering who we’ll someday be
Then I hear you breathing easy
Like the future isn’t frightening
And I borrow that for me
So if I don’t have all the answers
Maybe nobody arrives that way
Maybe growing into your own life
Looks ordinary day by day
Maybe all the things I prayed for
Didn’t come with fireworks above
Maybe they showed up so quietly
I almost called them luck
I spent so long chasing tomorrow
I forgot tomorrow learns your name
One morning it just finds you
And nothing looks the same
Not because the world got bigger
Not because the sky turned blue
Just because you finally noticed
You’ve been living inside the life
You were wishing for
So I’ll quit waiting for permission
To enjoy what’s already mine
Quit measuring every blessing
Against some finish line
There’ll be seasons I can’t hold onto
Doors that close because they should
But I don’t want to miss this chapter
Looking for a better one
If I have to be scared
I’ll be scared on the way
If I have to keep growing
I’ll grow anyway
And if this is only the beginning
Then I hope I never know
Because I think the best part
Is not seeing all the miles
It’s looking up one ordinary morning
Smiling…
And realizing
I already made it.
