Soft whispers in the dark, echoes of yesterday

Waiting for a spark, in the silence where we lay

I lay at night, reaching for the ceiling,

Hoping your hand would come down, still believing.

I turn over, hold the blankets tight,

Pretending you’re there with me tonight.

Why can’t this be the way it ended?
