The Empty Cy

I walked into your garden with salt on my shoes

You were blooming in red, I was painting in blues

I was the static in your silence, the crack in your wall

I took up the space where you were meant to stand tall

I drank from your river until the river ran dry

I promised you wings, then I clouded the sky.

I tried to be your shelter, but I was just the storm

I tried to be the fire, but I couldn't keep you warm

Now I see the light clearly of the person you were

Before I covered you up in a heavy black blur.

So this is my offering, this is my grace

I’m taking my shadow out of your space

I’m sorry the person that you needed was gone

I’m sorry the night lasted way past the dawn

I wasn't enough, I was too deep

So take back the freedom I stole while you sleep

This is the promise I finally keep .

I scared off your angels, I challenged your faith

I turned your soft heart into a hollowed-out place

I was the gravity pulling your satellite down

Making you ruler of a paper-made town

I invaded your orbit, I blocked out the sun

I’m laying down arms, the damage is done.

I looked for a savior in the eyes of strength

But I couldn’t bear the sunshine,

My skies were too weak

But I drowned out the answers you struggled to speak.

So this is my offering, this is my grace

I’m taking my shadow out of your space

I am the anchor, cutting the rope.

I am the exit.
