The Best Virginia

I’ve hiked through these hills since I was a boy

Walking among the trees always brought me joy

Wading through the creeks or fishing in the lakes

Left me with fond memories that I just can’t shake

We love to go hunting with a bow or a gun

And man how we love to see those hound dogs run

Gun rack in our truck and a deer head on the wall

We love being in the woods blowing that turkey call

The colors on the mountains change so drastically

Those snow covered trees are pretty as can be

Or the shades of yellow and orange in the fall

To summers lush green wilderness, man I love it all

West Virginia’s been the best Virginia since 18 63

I’m telling you my brothers Mountaineers Are Always Free

We love our God, we love our country and we love our guns

Countless generations dug coal underground

The mines were the lifeblood of their hometown’s

As those jobs dried up the community’s dwindled

The mining way of life would never be rekindled

We salute old glory and we kneel at the cross

We stand up for our country no matter the cost

We’re free because of veterans at home and abroad

And we are West Virginian’s by the grace of God
