Back when life was a Friday night
Cheap wine, loud rooms, no end in sight
Dreams on the wall, friends piled in
We swore we were kings… and that was it
Didn’t know much, but we knew enough
That the world was wide and we were tough
Funny how you miss what you laughed about
Now it’s early calls and late nights too
Shaking hands with men I barely knew
Suits and smiles, a practiced tone
Big rooms that still feel empty when I’m home
They said chase the gold, chase the name
Play it smart, play the game
Funny how the finish line keeps moving
They told me what to want, what to be
Funny thing is… they never asked me
Guess I nodded once and played along
Now machines write songs, drive the cars
Everybody’s famous in their own backyard
We chase the stars, we bend the light
Still can’t tell love from a Friday night
Funny how the more we know, the less we know
Is it one good love and a quiet life
Is it long nights out or home by five
Is it standing still or running free
Funny how none of it waits for me
But I got friends I’d call at midnight
I got nights I still smile about
I got a long road left and a glass of “we’ll see”
I don’t have it all figured out…
But I’m getting there now
I don’t have the answers, never did
But I stand a little straighter every time I slip
Still moving forward, nice and slow
Learning what matters… letting the rest go
Funny how the truth shows up that way
Right when you stop chasing yesterday
