Wolf Pen Mountain

Walton Grundy lived in a cabin way back on Wolf Pen mountain

If anyone happened to stumble upon him he’d commence to shoutin’

This here’s my land so you better just go on back from where you’re from

Or the last thing that you’ll see on this earth is the bullet from my gun

Now people in town they’d say ol’ Grundy had gone off the deep end

And one cold moonlit December night he’d murdered all of his kin

They said he’d chopped them all up and cooked ‘em in big ol’ pot of stew

Some folks said it was just a story and some folks swore it was true

I’d heard the legend of ol’ Walton Grundy ever since I was just a kid

So one cold moonlit December night I climbed up there and I hid

I saw ol’ Grundy sittin’ on his porch in the pale moonlight’s glow

Then from somewhere in his cabin I heard moans beginning to grow

As they got louder and stronger Grundy stood up and started to laugh

Then he looked right at me and I thought that I would face his wrath

With the moonlight shining on his face his skin seemed to shimmer

He said now boy don’t you try and run off I’d love to have you for dinner

Wolf Pen mountain isn’t a place that you should ever be

If you go up there you just may see what you shouldn’t see

Walton Grundy might be waiting on you with a gleam in his eye

His shimmering face the last thing you see right before you die

Just stay away from Wolf Pen mountain anyway that you can

Because what lives up there in that cabin sure ain’t no man

They say Wolf Pen mountain is haunted and you best believe it’s true

If you go up there you better be ready to give the Devil his due

The moans got louder and louder and then the screams began to rise

I turned to try and run but there was Grundy looking right into my eyes

I opened my mouth to try and scream but all I heard was his laughter

I thought that even if I could get away he’d still get what he was after

Then I saw a group of spirits flying through the door of Grundy’s shack

They floated across the ground and came up right behind his back

They grabbed a hold of Grundy and dragged him through his cabin door

He was screaming as they did it but once inside he screamed no more

That was 15 years ago

That I went to Grundy’s shack

I swore to myself a hundred times

That I’d never go back

Sometimes I still here his crazy laugh

On those cold December nights

And occasionally I see him

Standing in the moonlight
