He was her favorite drug, so, so sweet.
She paid no mind when it rotted her teeth.
Hallucinations of what she wanted him to be fogged her brain.
The need for him drives her insane.
She took his words as gospel.
“He would never lie.” She said,
“Purely impossible”
It wasn’t until she decided on sobriety.
Until she listened to the rest of society.
“If he wanted to he would, he could, he might…”
They showed her what he really was.
Simply a parasite.
She tried her best to change his behavior.
She thought “Maybe, just maybe I could be his savior.”
Tried every trick in the book.
Tried showing him the way but he wouldn’t look.
She yelled and kicked and screamed and cried.
He turned away and sighed.
She was living in her own little fantasy.
Ignoring the cavity where the old her used to be.
What she couldn't see was that he wasn’t the one she fell in love with.
Everything he promised her, could be passed along as a myth.
When she said goodbye.
It hurt her, and it wasn’t easy to hide.
She had to pretend she didn’t mind.
Just when she started to cope.
It hurt her the most.
When she found out he had moved on to his next host.
