They start out small. New to the world they don’t know you’re scared nervous of the unknown and you or they are gonna be thrown.
How will they be what you will teach them. The struggles and the pains and the heart aches they’ll go through.
First couple years go by in a flash. Couple knee scrapes. Gettin curious about their life.
Laughin and looking to only you for direction on their flight. It’s up to you to raise em right.
6 years past really finding their stride. well into learning how to fall and ride a bike. Learning their manners helping with chores.
Few years later getting curious adventurous.
us as parents still wondering if we’re doing it okay. Starting to learn what they do and don’t like.
Friends and family say you’re doing good till your kid comes home upset from school.
Emails start flowing parent meetings are regular. Talking and observing other kids in the class.
Hopin and praying life will give my kid the hall pass
You start to doubt yourself. Then you see them hold open the door or help the neighbor.
Pick up some trash and bite their tongue when they want to be crass.
Brief moments like these let you know maybe it’s okay and you’re raising em right.
Bit older now interested in girls the comments and questions throwin you for a whirl.
Father son talks start gettin pretty real. He still looks to you because you’re still his world.
You hope you’re answering the right way and making an impact and have to trust they’re listening but probably not.
Consistency and repetition and you’re just wishin that some day they see the light.
Finding independence doing their own thing havin sleepovers and going to friends.
Hope they’re respectful you’re definitely nervous then the phone rings and your heart comes to a stop. On the other line you hear a grown voice reminding you…that you’re raising em right.
Bein a parent ain’t no easy business. But ya gotta keep the faith. The relationship says it all the looks and the smiles and the laugh and the memories that you makes.
No matter how you shake it. me her him she will always make mistakes. Forgive forget and love hard always.
Before you know it you’re watching the pattern repeat. They’re all grown up with kids of his own and buildin a home. Growin with life.
Hopefully they visit. Hope you didn’t miss hit. Lots of Long days lots of long nights.
Then the phone rings and you hear on the other end of the phone. It’s your first born sayin Thanks for raising me right.
