Held It Together

I was the one they called when things went sideways

The one who didn’t panic when the room went quiet

I learned how to fix what nobody talked about

How to carry weight without showing the strain

Birthdays, bad news, long nights on the phone

Everybody leaned like I was made of stone

I never said no

I never said I was tired

I kept the peace

I kept the ground

I kept it steady

While I was breaking down

I held it together

For everyone else

Every storm that came

I kept to myself

They said I was strong

They never asked why

Somewhere along the way

I forgot how to fall apart

I got good at smiling through conversations

Nodding like nothing ever touched me

People said, “You’re solid, you don’t crack”

They didn’t see what it cost to stay that way

There were nights I sat in a parked car

Engine off, just breathing in the dark

No one to call

No one who thought to ask

I kept the calm

I played the part

I kept it moving

With a quiet heart

I held it together

For everyone else

Every storm that came

I kept to myself

They said I was strong

Like that was enough

But strength gets heavy

When nobody holds you up

No one left me

No one walked away

I just became the place

Where everybody stayed

Still standing

Still steady

Still quiet

Still ready

I held it together

Until I could see

The strong one they trusted

Was disappearing in me

I’m still here now
