Prompt / Lyrics
(Verse 1) Old Captain Blackwood was a devil in a coat of velvet red, He didn't want a prize or gold, he wanted sailors dead. He’d board a merchant galleon with a wild and wicked cry, And leave a single witness just to watch his brothers die. "Go tell the world of Blackwood!" he would bellow at the gale, While the scuppers ran with crimson and the wind began to wail. (Chorus) For every soul he sent to the sand, There’s a heavy price for a pirate’s hand! The fuse is short and the aim is true, What the Captain started, the ball will finish through! (Verse 2) We came upon a schooner that was heavy in the swell, And Blackwood led the boarding party straight into a hell. We cut 'em down like harvest wheat, we didn't leave a soul, Save for one limping gunner who was hiding in the hold. The Captain kicked him in the ribs and laughed a hollow sound, "Go tell 'em that the Vulture is the meanest ship around!" (Chorus) For every soul he sent to the sand, There’s a heavy price for a pirate’s hand! The fuse is short and the aim is true, What the Captain started, the ball will finish through! (Verse 3) We sailed away in triumph with our pockets full of lead, Not knowing that the gunner hadn't crawled away to bed. He’d dragged himself to "Long-Tom," to the heavy iron beast, And loaded up a double-charge for a final bloody feast! He aimed it at the Vulture and he aimed it at the rail, Where Blackwood stood a-boasting with a goblet full of ale! (Chorus) For every soul he sent to the sand, There’s a heavy price for a pirate’s hand! The fuse is short and the aim is true, What the Captain started, the ball will finish through! (Verse 4) The thunder shook the ocean and it tore the night in two, The cannonball came screaming for the Captain and his crew! It caught him in the midsection and it took away his pride, And scattered all his wickedness across the rising tide! The survivor stood a-cheering as we foundered in the bay, The only man to ever make the Captain Blackwood pay! (Chorus) For every soul he sent to the sand, There’s a heavy price for a pirate’s hand! The fuse is short and the aim is true, What the Captain started, the ball will finish through! (Outro) Over the side! Into the blue! The Captain is lead, And the story is through!
