I’ve heard too many words fall flat,

From lips that swore they’d never stray.

I’ve watched the trust fade out like smoke,

And seen the light just burn away.

Every vow that turned to dust,

Taught me the weight that truth must bear—

If you don’t mean to see it through,

Then don’t pretend you’ll take it there.
