The War Within Me

There’s a demon in the shadows, and angels in the light

They’re carving up my soul — only one will own it outright

Every whisper is a warning, every breath becomes a plea

The good and evil battle on the canvas that is me

They paint their stories deep — I feel it in my bones

It’s a war beneath the surface, where peace has never had a home.

I can feel their fire, and I can feel their grace

Two divided forces, wearing just one face

In the chaos there’s never a reason, in the dark there is no spark

Every angel hides a demon waiting silent in the dark

Some voices try to heal me, while others drag me to drown

It’s a war of contradiction every time they come around

I got angels on my left, and I got devils on my right

They’re scratching at the surface of my sanity tonight

At the crossroads of my soul, where many sold their soul

In a never-ending struggle — who will take control?

Sometimes I feel the anger, as it’s pounding on my door

It’s the Greed, lust and envy they I can’t ignore

But I won’t let them steal from me what I truly adore

I’ll climb just high enough, to see whats worth fighting for

And though the world may anger, and the shadows start to fall

I’ll try to rise above the darkness, I will answer their phone call

With every bit of envy, greed, and lust I see

Lately, they’ve become the things that try to define me

(Whispered) With the Pride, gluttony, envy and lust

Battle it out in my soul— I’m trying to learn how to trust

(Whispered) Sloth, wrath and greed those I’ve always known

And now we’re all here, building up my throne

In the battlefield of myself, where the sinner meets the saint

I’ll choose the voice of mercy over bitterness and hate

I’ll be the war, when all I want is peace

But that war inside me, I know will never cease
