In the town of Berberg, where ze shadows grow long,
Lived a boy full of zee laughter, with mischief so strong.
Hiz moozah vould warn him, "Shtay close to zee fire,
Zee woods are a danger, please don’t go any higher!"
Oh, little boy from Bergberg town, he bent zee rules tight,
He danced through zee meadows, das a shimmering sight.
Vith strudel in hand, he giggled with glee,
Ignoring his moozah, he yearned to be free.
But whispers grew louder amoong zee tall trees,
A chill in the air,
A soft, eerie breeze.
His laughter turned hollow, echoing dread,
As shadows grew closer, vith stories long dead.
Oh, little Bergberg boy, heed your moozah’s call,
Or zee Grundle-beast shall rise, and you"ll stumble and fall.
In the dark of the woods, where danger abounds,
Better stay by zee hearth, let safe joy surround!
Through zee twisted branches, he wandered alone,
The laughter that lingered, now turning to stone.
A rustle behind him, a growl like a dream,
The Grundle-beast lurked, with a gaze aimed to scheme.
"Dear boy, come to me, I can show you the light,
Leave all your troubles, let me ease your fright!"
He stepped closer still, forgetting the tale,
Of the beast in the shadows,
With hunger to wail.
But zee Grundle-Beast’s mouth it vas filled with zee teeth, und poor little Freederick forgot, “that’s a beast!”
Oh, little Bergberg boy, heed your moozah’s call,
Or the Grundle-beast shall rise, and you"ll stumble and fall.
In zee dark of the woods, where danger abounds,
Better stay by the hearth, let safe joy surround!
The darkness enveloped, he saw but a gleam,
The Grundle-beast pounced, like a horrifying dream.
It whispered so sweetly, then showed its true face,
With a laugh and a snap, devoured his face.
Then his legs were munched next, the boy he did wail, as the Grundle-beast ate him from head to his tail.
So heed zis tale children, from Berberg so dear,
For a moozah’s warm warnings are all vee should hear.
The woods have zer secrets, zer shadows und horrors,
So listen, sweet boy,
Or fill the Grundle-Beast’s belly, like you deserve, you little hoarder!
