Prompt / Lyrics
86 long years ago, a baby boy was born in Oklahoma, not too far from here 85 long years ago, a boy turned one a mother son was walking, soon he’d be talking He knew Cherokee, spoke fluently Those were his only words And soon enough, he grew up tough And one year turned into 20 66 some years ago, this boy was turning 20 Started working jobs from here to there Pick a guitar up, and he styled his hair Well he grew up shy and waywardly But his mind full of curiosity He took a chance of bravery And somehow, this turned out to beeeeeeee And the man of 20 years was playing music He was learning all the ropes and hopes Of one day, being famous He played long hours, learned lots of songs And people like to hear him But somewhere deep inside his heart He knew something was missing 20 turned to 30, time was flying He married a pretty girl, and there was no denying A baby girl, a baby boy, a family was beginning And nothing could predict that God Could turn a man from sinning….. And the man of 20 years was playing music He was learning all the ropes and hopes Of one day, being famous He played long hours, learned lots of songs And people like to hear him But somewhere deep inside his heart He knew something was missing……….. NOW, the grace of God reached down and heard the music A voice as good as gold, and God would hold him close and listen My son, he said, I’ve waited all your life to tell you this You gave your heart, you gave your gifts I’m proud of you, you got your wish And the man of 20 years was playing music He was learning new songs now and reaching people With the good news, God had given him He’d overcome a life of sin With Jesus in his heart, he’d finally made it Now eternity’s worth more, Than being famous. Yes, eternity’s worth more, Than being famous. NOW, the grace of God reached down and heard the music A voice as good as gold, and God would hold him close and listen My son, he said, I’ve waited all your life to tell you this You gave your heart, you gave your gifts I’m proud of you, you got your wish You gave your heart, you gave your gifts I’m proud of you, you got your wish Now eternity’s worth more, Than being famous. Yes, eternity’s worth more…………. Than being famous. (Spoken) “Happy 86th Birthday, DAD!”
