Climbing out the shadows, reaching for the day,

Every time I see the light, it slips away.

They shake my hand, but their promises bend,

Empty words dressed up, nothing to defend.

I carry weight they’ll never see,

Working for a future that’s choking me.

Every time I push for air,

They drag me down, they’re never there.

Voices echo, faith runs thin,

I fight the tide, I won’t give in.

Tied like a bin bag, pulled in every direction,

Said they’d lift me up — but it’s only misdirection.

All I ever did was care, do the work, hold the line,

But they only see a debt when I can’t pay on time.

Accused of lies I never made,

They wear their masks, I see the charade.

They vanish quick, but I take the blame.

Neighbors cold, friends turn away,
