Before you judge me…
Before you look at the man standing here today
and think you know everything about me,
you gotta understand something.
You know my name.
You might know some of my mistakes.
You might’ve heard pieces of my story.
But you weren’t there for every chapter.
You don’t know every road I walked,
every choice I made,
every consequence I had to face,
or every lesson that I had to learn
So before you judge me for who I am today
Let me tell you who I used to be
V-1
I made some choices I ain’t proud of,
said some things I can’t take back,
I had 3 people show me real love,
but I was too angry to understand that.
I carried anger on my shoulders,
had my pride was like wall blocking everything out ,
every time somebody got too close,
I would shut them out.
I thought being hard made me stronger,
thought showing feelings made me weak,
so I kept everything locked inside
when I really wanted peace.
Had some nights I questioned everything,
wondering where I why do people treat me like this
I used to wondered why people kept me at a distance
but somehow every broken road
kept pushing me along.
Pre-Chorus
You see the man,
but you don’t see the miles.
You see me standing,
you haven’t seen my story .
You know what happened,
but you don’t know why.
So hear my story
before you decide.
Chorus
Don’t judge me
by the person that I used to be.
Don’t judge me
by the worst thing you’ve heard about me.
I’ve made mistakes,
I’ve paid the price,
I’ve learned some lessons
I can’t describe.
I ain’t saying that I did everything right,
I’m saying I’m still changing my life.
So don’t judge me,
until you’ve heard my side.
Verse 2
I learned apologies don’t fix everything,
and love don’t erase every scar.
Sometimes you gotta face what you damaged
before you can know who you are.
Had to look into that mirror
without pointing fingers anymore.
Had to ask myself some questions
I spent years trying to ignore.
Who am I when anger fades?
Who am I when pride is gone?
Who am I when nobody’s watching
and I gotta admit when I’m wrong?
That’s when something started changing.
I stopped running from the truth.
I couldn’t change yesterday,
but I could choose what I would do.
Bridge
Jesus saw the pain, Jesus saw me when I was lost.
Jesus saw every mistake and every flaw.
When people counted me out,
You still gave me another morning.
So I’m not standing here saying I’m perfect.
I’m standing here saying…
I’m growing.
I’m learning.
I’m trying.
And I’m not finished yet.
Choir builds
Don’t judge me
by the person that I used to be.
Don’t judge me
like my past is all you’ll ever see.
I fell down,
I got back up,
and every lesson changed something in me.
I can’t rewrite
the pages behind me,
but God gave me another page
and I’m writing differently.
So don’t judge me…
You haven’t heard the whole story.
Music fades back to piano
You know my name.
Now…
it’s time you know my story
it’s time you know my story.
This isn’t a story about a perfect man
It’s a story about
the man I become
