Hymn to Identity: "Quisqueya in the Soul and Heart of Dominicans
(Verse 1: The Land and the Faith)
In the heart of the sea a flower was born
called Quisqueya with much love, kindness, humility, and honor.
With the Bible open under the blue sky
where Holy God is our light.
Jesus in our hearts, faith in our gaze,
and the Virgin of Altagracia, our beloved mother
protecting the poor, guiding the brave, our men and women
in this land of sun and people, kind and sincere, tireless workers, always fighters, the politicians of the people steal our treasures
(Verse 2: The Heroes and the Heroines)
Duarte thought, Mella shot,
and Sánchez raised the flag to the sky
But there were women of steel and honey
María Trinidad, brave and faithful
the Mirabal Sisters, butterflies of glory, sacrificed their lives for a great victory
that with their blood Greedy politicians wrote history, not honoring their glories.
Juana Saltitopa with her fire and spirit,
and Salomé teaching with love and free will. Their courage is not valued because what they fought for has been stolen by the new generation of politicians, who steal all the heritage, even the crumbs.
(Verse 3: The Struggle and the Land)
Mamá Tingó shouted, "The land belongs to everyone, holy God granted it to us!"
Facing the abuse of all the abusers, and because of the people's struggle, they eliminated her without reason.
Enrique Blanco rose up in the mountains,
and the people sang his name in décimas.
Juan Bosch brought laws of peace and justice,
but the envy of supposed power, their greed, defeated him. For their interests, they are so hypocritical that if a country progresses, envy and selfishness don't let it grow.
And Caamaño in April, facing the invader,
defended the flag with all his courage.
(Verse 4: Culture) and the Spirit)
The güira, the accordion, and the drum sound, Dominicans play them with honor.
Merengue cures any pain.
At the first UASD, science sprouted,
and the knowledge of America began here.
Although foreign hands may try to tame us,
a people who pray will not give up,
because there is much goodness in every corner and the
love of Mary is our blessing. (Chorus)
Oh, my rich but poorly cared-for homeland!
By avaricious hands it was mistreated; avarice always sells our homeland, ignoring the people because of their arrogance.
But the Dominican does not know how to surrender;
he prefers death to sinking.
(Closing) Homeland and Liberty! is the sacred cry of freedom
that Duarte, Sánchez, and Mella inherited from more.
Holy God, take care of this land! May Quisqueya shine under the same sky! Land of giants, of love and of faith! I am Dominican, and always will be. I will be
