“I’m an Astronaut, I Guess”
Verse 1
I put my helmet on my head,
Then I floated out of bed,
The moon was looking kind of round,
And space did not make any sound.
Pre-Chorus
Stars are shiny, planets too,
I forgot what I came here to do,
Houston called, I missed the phone,
Now I’m drifting all alone.
Chorus
I’m an astronaut, I guess,
In my slightly wrinkled space suit vest,
Flying past Mars with a granola bar,
Wondering where I parked my star.
I’m an astronaut today,
But I left my snacks in the Milky Way.
Verse 2
My rocket made a funny sound,
Then blasted me up off the ground,
I waved goodbye to planet Earth,
Then questioned all my life’s self-worth.
Pre-Chorus
There’s no gravity, that’s neat,
But it’s hard to eat freeze-dried meat,
My boots are floating by my face,
This is a pretty average space.
Chorus
I’m an astronaut, I guess,
Doing okay, but not my best,
Flying past Saturn, waving slow,
I don’t know where astronauts go.
I’m an astronaut tonight,
Hope I make it back alright.
Bridge
The aliens said, “Hey, what’s up?”
I offered them my space juice cup,
They said my song was kind of bland,
Then formed a disappointing band.
Final Chorus
I’m an astronaut, I guess,
Outer space is quite a mess,
The moon is there, the stars are bright,
But my rocket’s dashboard light says “Yikes.”
I’m an astronaut, it’s true,
Mostly lost, but kind of blue.
Floating through the great unknown,
Please remind me how to get home.
