Prompt / Lyrics
It’s one thing to look the part, but you just can’t look the part. Anybody can dress up and look the part. You gotta not just look the part, you gotta be the part. If you are an artist, you have to become the art. If you are a musician, you have to become the notes. If you are a singer, you have to become the song. If you are a preacher, you must become the sermon. You just can’t look the part, you gotta be the part. The world is so full of pretenders. The world is so full of pretenders, they have forgotten that they are pretenders. They’re pretending that they’re not pretending. So now they don’t even know that they’re pretending to be pretending. That’s what happens when you really try to look the part. [HOOK – DROP HERE] Don’t look like it, live like it Don’t wear it, give life to it If it ain’t you, don’t dress it up Be the flame or don’t light it up Water is like currency, you know? Watch the river flow, watch the river flow, watch the river flow, watch the water go. Where is the water going? The water is going in the currency. And the currency is really the urgency of the currency. Don’t get lost in the flow. The currency runs deep in the frequency of sound. And when sound begins to flow, man, please understand—you can’t stop that sound. Remember what I said about being the art, or being the sermon, or whatever you are. You can’t just look the part, you gotta be the part. When you put your shoes on, when you match your top with your bottom, your hat with your jacket— you look like what you are. If you’re an artist, you want to look like the art. But it’s not enough to paint the wall like Van Gogh. You gotta paint from within your soul. And when you paint from within your soul, there are things the flesh will never know. The flesh can’t see what the soul knows, because the flesh can’t go where the soul goes. I said the flesh can’t see what the soul knows because the flesh can’t be where the soul goes. So when you really become the art, to others it looks strange. Because they remember what they started out trying to do. But instead of becoming the part, they just wanted to look the part. Get dressed up, look fancy, because money is flowing like currency. So now I gotta look the part. But deep down inside, they know somebody stopped their start. Made them forget who they were and where they were going. Made them forget who they were and where they were going. Made them forget who they were and where they were going. Now they have to play a certain part. I thank God I didn’t get signed way back in the days. Because I’m the art that became the art. Tilla Sonrise. Peace.
