Many years ago
On a cold, cold night
When the west was young
Came a man and his wife...
The places they had gone
The places they had been
He knew they weren't wanted
By the color of their skin
He was a red man
His wife was pure white
Knowing they were hated
They stowed away in the night
Alone on the trail
A new life they'd begun With tears in her eyes
She gave him a son
He being red
She being white
A half-breed for a son
They'd always have to fight
No place to call home
No place they could rest
Tired of running
And trying to do their best
With love in his heart And tears in his eyes
A knife in his hand
This night he'd take their lives
Now the sun shines bright
And there they lie
Alone on the trail
Where once they searched for life
Now he's still red, She's still white
Their son's still a half-breed, In Gods eternal light
