Every Day Closer

Little paw prints from the dirt runnin’ through our home,

Little messes on the floor that somehow make it whole.

There’s a little baby voice comin’ through every call,

Sayin’ “I miss you,” and we know it won’t be long.

Soon that voice won’t have to come through a phone,

There’ll be little feet runnin’ down these halls back home.

And I catch myself smiling at the life we’re growing into,

I think about a kitchen full of laughter and noise,

Dog hair on the couch and scattered little toys.

Family pictures hanging where these empty walls have been,
