The Imaginary Paradise
In the garden where nothing was owed
No hands in the dirt, nothing to load
No hunger that bent you down low
No clock and no place you must go
No fences, no rulers, no claim
No borders to carve up a name
No lines saying “this side is mine”
Just open and undefined
No maps and no pieces to own
No kingdoms to build out of stone
No flags pushing into the sky
No need to divide or deny
Just breath in the shade of the trees
And life moving soft on the breeze
No thought of a “yours” or a “mine”
No need to defend or define
Then came the word like a chain
A sentence disguised as a gain
“By sweat you will earn what you need”
A law planted deep like a seed
The first lines were drawn in the ground
The first time “keep out” became sound
The first borders cut through the land
And labor was placed in our hands
Then borders grew into belief
Into nation, religion, and grief
From soil lines to walls made of stone
To maps saying “this is our own”
Six days you will labor and bend
One day you can try to pretend
That rest is a gift from above
Not something you're worthy of
Hook:
I was born in the weight of a lie
Earning the right just to stay alive
Call it sin, call it grace
Feels like chains I can't replace
If this is truth, then explain to me
Why breath comes priced so brutally
I didn't choose, I didn't agree
Still I'm living in slavery
Imagine no lines in the mind
No color to separate kind
No label to weaken the whole
No border dividing the soul
Together we live and we die
No one above in the sky
Just part of the flow of it all
No special, no chosen, no call
I wasn't there under that sky
No fruit in my hand, no reply
No voice that I chose to defy
Yet I'm the one paying the price
A system I never designed
But buried itself in my mind
Invisible lines that I keep
Even in places I sleep
They tell you what side you belong
What's right and what side is the wrong
They draw it in thought and in land
Till you start to obey the command
Now borders live under the skin
In what you accept, where you've been
In what you believe you deserve
In how much you think you can swerve
No garden, no perfect release
Just labor that never will cease
And lines that you don't even see
Still telling you what you can be
No serpent, no tree, just decree.
Imagine no lines in the mind
No color to separate kind
No label to weaken the whole
No border dividing the soul
Together we live and we die
No one above in the sky
Just part of the flow of it all
No special, no chosen, no call.
Imagine no lines in the mind
Not seeing the color of skin
Just seeing the truth held within
No label to weaken the whole
No border dividing the soul
Together we live and we die
No one above in the sky
Just part of the flow of it all
No special, no chosen, no call.
