She Showed Me What Love Is

I grew up fast, learned to carry my weight,

Had dreams too big for the town where I stayed,

Worked through the nights while the whole world slept,

Made promises to myself I intended to keep.

I’ve watched friends leave, felt people let me down,

Learned how to smile with nobody around,

So I built up walls, made my heart like stone,

Convinced myself I was better alone.

I poured all my hurt into work and dreams,

Built two businesses from almost nothing, it seemed,

Every scar became another reason to fight,

Every closed door kept my fire alive.

Then she showed me what real love is,

It ain’t just a kiss or a midnight wish,

It’s staying up late while I’m chasing a dream,

Helping carry the weight when it’s too much for me.

She don’t ask me to slow down or be someone I’m not,

She loves the man behind everything I’ve got.

I spent my whole life thinking strong meant standing alone,

Then she showed me real love can feel like home.

I’ve painted old trucks underneath southern skies,

Turned dents and mistakes into dollar signs,

Driven miles for jobs that didn’t go right,

Then worked even harder to make ‘em turn out alright.

I’ve sat by myself when life got hard,

Wondering why God ever dealt me those cards,

But looking back now, I’d live it again,

’Cause every hard road made me the man I am.

Yeah, she showed me what real love is,

It’s five in the morning, still helping with bids,

Making sure I eat when I forget again,

Praying for my heart and being my best friend.

She don’t need my money or care what I own,

She sees the tired man when the workday’s gone.

I spent my whole life being everybody’s strength,

Then she came along and carried some of my weight.

Maybe love ain’t fireworks burning out fast,

Maybe it’s planting something built to last,

Two hearts like gardeners tending the ground,

Growing something beautiful where pain once was found.

She never tried to take the fire out of me,

She gave that fire a better reason to burn.

And for the first time, I finally see,

Real love don’t take—it gives back to me.

She showed me what real love is,

It’s patience and faith and moments like this,

It’s knowing my worst and still seeing my best,

Giving my restless heart somewhere to rest.

I’ve built cars, built dreams, built a name of my own,

But nothing I’ve built ever felt this much like home.

After all of the scars and the nights I survived,

She didn’t come to save me—she just stood by my side.

I used to think love would get in my way,

Take from my dreams, give me one more weight,

But this girl came along and changed my whole view—

I spent my life showing up for everybody else,

Then she showed up for me too.
