Shadows of Then and Now

Whispered shadows fall, heavy on my soul

Silent tears trace lines, stories left untold

In the quiet ache of night, I face my fears alone

A broken mirror's reflection, of a man I don’t own

Dreams fade into the dusk, hopes lost in the rain

Wishing I could be enough, but I still feel the pain

Every effort, every try, feels like sinking sand

Bound by the weight of need, I can't understand

Crushing weight of knowing, I’m falling short again

Holding onto fragments, of a love I can't defend

Terrified I’ll fail them, in the shadows of my mind

Inadequate and broken, leaving dreams behind

Failling to lift them higher, my hands tremble and shake

Worried they’ll see through the scars, the cracks I try to hide

Fearing I’m the storm, they’ll get lost in the tides
