I got the big promotion today
A move to the city with a better pay
Jumping in the rat race, discovering new places
Meeting new people, seeing new faces
Settled in a condo way up in the clouds
A view of the city, and the traffic sounds
Horses and cattle replaced by cars and crowds
And the hills I once loved, now stacked brick towers
The city lights burn my eyes all night
And the sound of cars fills up the sky
Between the noise and the smell, something ain’t right
I miss the trees, the fields, and bees in flight
Neighbors to the left, neighbors to the right
More up and down, the city’s crowded life
I want to lay my head down under stars so bright
Where all I hear is crickets and the wind at night
These damn city lights, they burn through the night
They drown out the stars, something just ain’t right
Take me back where the skies are clear and free
Back to my Hill Country’s home, that’s where I need to be
Oh, I miss my hometown, and where the world feels right.
Take me to Boerne, Bandera, and Fredericksburg too
Where we can Sip on wine while the sky’s are painted blue
Johnson City, Dripping Springs, any place that feels true
The Texas Hill Country is the only check on my to do
A coyote howl beats the sound of horn
And the crowds of people ain’t around no more
I want to hear the Birds whistling, heading to the country store
Head to the honkytonk with sawdust on the floor.
I may live in the city’s heights and climbed the corporate walls
But it’s the open skies that answer my calls
No skyscraper or city light can replace the view of hills, stars, and a hill country life
These damn city lights, they burn through the night
They drown out the stars, something just ain’t right
Take me back where the skies are clear and free
Back to my Hill Country’s home, that’s where I need to be
Told my boss today the city life’s gotta go
I can’t take the sounds and the smells of the city no more
Im heading back to where the stars shine bright, the smell will of cut grass and the world feels right
Yeah I’m going back home, I’m heading back back back back to my hometown
