Went out to the bar last night, ordered a drink then I sat down

Looked to my right and he was there, long white beard and light grey hair

Didn’t say much at first, just nodded his head

Stared through the bottom of a half-empty glass like it held what he said

He said “son, I don’t usually talk, but tonight feels right”

“Feels like God put you right here in my line of sight”

“I met a girl on this barstool, damn near this same spot”

“Thirty years beside her, lost it all to what I was not”

Bought some land, built a house, watched the seasons roll

But I couldn’t quite fix what was broke in my soul
