In His Footsteps”
(Updated Version with 2 Timothy 4:7)
Verse 1
I remember Sunday mornings, waking to your voice,
Bible by your bedside, saying “Son, you have a choice.
Walk the narrow road, even when the nights get long—
’Cause God is ever faithful, and His love will make you strong.”
I watched the way you lived it, more than every word you prayed,
You were the kind of man who showed me how a life of faith is made.
Chorus
Now I’m walking in your footsteps, though you’re gone, you’re not far,
You left a trail of Jesus written deep upon my heart.
I’m a husband, I’m a father, and I’m doing what you taught,
Loving God, loving people, giving everything I’ve got.
And I feel you smiling from heaven when I stand where you once stood—
I’m walking in your footsteps, and I’m doing what you would.
Verse 2
You told me storms would happen, but grace would hold me fast,
You showed me how to trust Him through the questions I would ask.
You weren’t perfect, but you led me with a humble, steady hand,
And now the seeds you planted grow in me to make a man.
I wish that you could see us—my family and my call—
But I know you’re in the chorus cheering heaven’s loudest song.
Chorus
’Cause I’m walking in your footsteps, though you’re gone, you’re not far,
You left a trail of Jesus written deep upon my heart.
I’m a husband, I’m a father, and I’m doing what you taught,
Loving God, loving people, giving everything I’ve got.
And I feel you smiling from heaven when I stand where you once stood—
I’m walking in your footsteps, and I’m doing what you would.
Bridge
And when the days were weary, you held to what was true,
You’d say, “Son, when life gets heavy, God will carry you through.”
You lived the words of Scripture, and you showed me how to stay—
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race.”
And now I hear you whisper when the road feels long and late,
“I have kept the faith, son… now it’s your turn to run with grace.”
Final Chorus
So I’ll keep walking in your footsteps, but now I’ve made them mine,
Following the Savior down the path you left behind.
I’m a husband, I’m a father, and I stand here by His grace,
A living testimony of the love you lived each day.
And someday when I see you, I’ll say, “Dad, I did my best.”
I’m walking in your footsteps—
And I’m finishing my race
