My freshman year in high school
in 1986
When I was into Falco and getting out of Styx
I went to English 101 with essay in my hand
A story bout some grand old ship
In some foreign land
I was proud about the words I chose
The teacher gave me praise
But the simplest words were spoken next
and they live on to this day
John Thompson was a nerdy child
though he didn't seem quite bright
He nervously addressed the class
with words he strained to write
Little did we know that day
the four words he would speak
would prophesize our future lives
and what would come to be.....
Computer are the future
he said
Computers are the future
indeed
They have superior computational skills
than either you or me
Computer are the future
he said
I've suspected it for some time
they remember almost everything
And keep us all in
In line
The kids they lightly chuckled
As John's pale face grew red
No one understood quite yet
the depth of what he said
The teacher....Mr Erickson
said: "Well...that is interesting"
Could you elaborate a bit
Explain just what you mean?
Computers are the future
he said
They think much faster than us
Computers are the future
he said
They'll leave humans
In the dust
Now the chuckles turned to laughter
And John hung his head low
Who'd had known he'd prophesized
so many years ago
A world where computers
Would learn to live and breathe
That A.I. would replace us all
provide everything we need
Computers are the future
he said
I've suspected it for awhile
Computers are the future
he said
They're in their infancy
Just like a child.
