Verse 1-
I’m insecure.
And I talk a lot.
I don’t have much to give,
But I’ll give it all I got.
I won’t believe you,
No matter how often you say,
That you think I’m pretty,
But just tell me anyway…
Tell me anyway.
Verse 2-
I’m neurodivergent.
Whatever that means.
Anything other than normal,
as If normal means anything.
I set something down,
And then I walk away.
You may have to tell me a thousand times,
But please,
Tell me again anyway.
Chorus-
Because I need to hear it,
I hate that I do.
I wish that the words stuck to my mind like glue,
But they tend to drift and the lies sneak back in,
And somehow those linger and I’ll end up giving in,
And all of the progress I made with myself,
Gets put back on the dusty neurological shelf,
And I’ll have to start over,
learn to love me again,
But if you can handle that,
Then I might let you in.
Verse 3
I am intense.
My feelings are big.
My heart stays on my sleeve
Even when I try to pretend.
Like the words you are saying,
They won’t bruise me.
But the truth is that I’ll probably
Cry myself to sleep
Please be careful with me.
Verse 4-
If after all this,
You still want to stay.
I’m glad that you do,
Because I just can’t move,
when I think of it going any other way.
You seem to be still,
With a stoic peace,
Your presence is steady and something that I desperately need.
Remind me again why you choose me
Chorus-
Because I need to hear it,
I hate that I do.
I wish that the words stuck to my mind like glue,
But they tend to drift and the lies sneak back in,
And somehow those linger and I’ll end up giving in,
And all of the progress I made with myself,
Gets put back on the dusty neurological shelf.
And I’ll have to start over,
learn to love me again,
But if you can handle that,
Then I might let you in.
