I was walking alone down a midnight street
Shadows whispered lies, and I felt my heartbeat
A voice like thunder said, “Come with me, son”
Felt the heat of hell before my race had begun
I saw Matthew 26 in the back of my mind
“Watch and pray” but I’d fallen behind
The devil’s footsteps echoed in my head
I was lost, barely living, half-dead
Then I stumbled on a church with an open door
Light spilled out on the dusty floor
I heard the preacher call, “Come home tonight”
Like Luke 15, the prodigal in sight
I fell to my knees, said, “Lord, I need You near”
And Heaven’s voice whispered, “Child, I hear”
Inside that room, the gospel filled the air
John 3:16 lit the darkness there
I said, “Preacher, please, will you pray with me?”
He laid his hand, and we bent our knees
Time slowed down like the world stood still
Every heartbeat echoed His perfect will
I closed my eyes, and the world slipped away
Heaven opened up, and I heard God say:
“Son, your sins are gone, you’re washed and clean
Isaiah 1:18, your soul redeemed
You were lost, but I’ve called your name
Through My blood, you are not the same
Enter peace, for you are forgiven”
I woke in a hospital, lights in my eyes
The preacher walked over, to my surprise
He whispered softly, “Are you okay?”
I smiled through tears and had to say:
“I am forgiven… I am free
Jesus rescued a wretch like me”
Now I walk in light, no more alone
Psalm 23 leads this heart back home
From the pit to the sky, my chains are gone
I am forgiven, and I belong
