Shadows of the Soul

Whispered shadows, creeping near,

Silent thief that feeds on fear.

Unseen enemy, blood and bone,

In the darkness, dreams are gone.

It starts with a whisper, a subtle cough,

A shadow lurking, dragging life off.

A fleeting memory of vibrant days,

Now fading in a cold haze.

Hands trembling, holding on tight,

Fighting shadows in the night.

Hoping for a dawn so bright,

Cancer, you slowly steal my breath,

Fighting to hold on to what's left,

In this silent, tragic breath.

Cancer, why do you have to be,

Such a cruel enemy?

Pain that lingers, like a shadow's kiss,

A hollow ache no cure dismiss.

Lost in battles, both near and far,

Like a ghost beneath my scar.

Tears fall softly, hopes so thin,

Searching for where I begin.

A fight to find the strength within,

To resist the deadly sin.
