Shadows in the hallway where you used to stand

Faint echoes of your laughter slipping through my hands

You weren’t much of a hero, not even close

But I’m digging through the ashes for what mattered most

You’d stumble and fumble crash like a wave

Unkept promises like broken bottles sharp and depraved

But I still see the man who tried to make it right

Even when the darkness swallowed up the light

I’m screaming at the sky, asking how could you go

You were never perfect, but I still miss you so

A ghost of a father haunting my mind

Searching for the love I could never find

With beer on your breath stories half untold

A heart made of paper crumpled and cold

You fought your own battles lost more than you won

But I was just a kid hoping for a sun

I can’t rewrite the pages torn from this book

But I’d give it all back for one honest look
