WHOLE
I think I get it;
I think I understand;
The wisdom of the stars;
The moon;
The sky.
Stories of people who’ve loved since childhood;
Decades later, even more.
One soul found the other;
And just knew;
That finally;
They were whole.
I think.
I hope.
The reason I am filled with such awe;
Is that I know.
I believe.
It soon will be my turn.
Each life serves a purpose;
I have endured times of turmoil, and have learned peace;
Times of hunger and I feel abundance;
Times of failure and I knew success.
And.
Times of loneliness;
And yearning;
To know;
What it is to be whole.
I think.
I hope.
That because I was loved by you;
The universe believes me ready;
To know what it is to be whole.
When I learned you were gone;
I thought I could never return to our home;
I could never spend another night where I was so vulnerable;
In the place where I felt love.
I stayed away;
Just for just a while.
I hid behind work;
I slept in the woods;
I visited places I hadn’t been;
I put on a good face;
Still, I yearned.
Now I’ve returned;
to our home;
And you are everywhere.
Literally,
Everywhere.
The spot where a feline protected you from beasts;
A coffee table, coasters in use;
A fire pit;
By which we laughed;
And sometimes cried.
A mirror;
A light;
A vase;
A bicycle made for two.
There isn’t a place in our home where I didn’t feel loved by you.
There isn’t a place in our home that you aren’t.
Post-it notes of affection;
A dance;
A kiss;
A handyman chore “just because.”
The garage where the shelf fell;
The mug that never came home;
The glass, shattered;
The times we didn’t understand.
A ride on a horse;
A street corner, full of bright lights;
An adventure just for two.
A sweet little coco plum.
If my theory is right;
(Please let it be right;)
Wishes. Dreams. Hopes;
Will become;
Plans. Reality. Forever.
Some day;
One day;
That because I was loved by you;
And the universe believes me ready
One soul will find the other;
And I will already know;
That I am meant to be;
Woven with the being of you.
And I will understand;
What it is to be whole.
