Somewhere in all this, I started a family.
Now I got two boys looking at me different.
One came from me, one didn’t,
but love never asked me for paperwork.
That’s my son too.
I don’t separate it in my head,
so I damn sure won’t separate it in my heart.
And their mama, and those boys—
I want them to have everything.
Not just what they need.
I mean everything they deserve.
A finished house.
A place that feels like home.
Something stable.
Something they can look back at and say,
“Damn… he really did all of this.”
But somewhere between providing
and fixing
and working
and chasing people down
and paying somebody to take something off my plate
just for them to put something else on it
I forgot I wanted things too.
And I don’t mean another truck.
Another trailer.
Another machine sitting somewhere waiting on me.
I mean I want my life back.
I miss walking through the city
and feeling like I was part of it.
Walking into the club and knowing everybody.
Music too loud to think—
and for once, that was the whole point.
DJ see me standing there, dap me up,
and there was something about that feeling…
like we were both on our way somewhere.
His dream behind those decks,
mine somewhere in my head,
and neither one of us knew exactly where it ended.
I miss dancing until whatever bothered me
couldn’t keep up anymore.
Now I got so much on my plate
I don’t even know where the plate ends.
And all the things that used to give me relief
feel like they’re sitting on hold
until I finish everything else.
But everything else never finishes.
So yeah, I want my family good.
I want my boys good.
I want their mama good.
I’ll break my back making sure they never go without.
But I want something for me too.
I want to feel respected.
I want somebody to look at what I’m doing
and understand that none of this shit happens by accident.
People see unfinished.
I see halfway there.
They see too many trailers,
too many machines,
too many projects,
too much shit.
I see a fleet.
I see everything running.
Tow truck ready.
Equipment working.
Trailers moving.
Jobs getting done without me having to beg somebody to show up.
I can already see the yard
when everything finally has its place.
Maybe that’s the part nobody understands.
I’m not collecting broken things.
I’m collecting pieces of a life
I haven’t had enough time to finish yet.
And I’m gonna finish it.
Not so everybody can finally tell me I was right.
I’m past that.
I just want to wake up one morning
and realize I’m not imagining my life anymore.
I’m living in it.
The house is done.
The music is playing again.
My family’s straight.
The equipment starts when I turn the key.
And for once—
nothing is waiting on me.
Nothing needs fixing.
Nobody needs calling.
I can just look around at all of it…
and know my effort went somewhere.
Know I went somewhere.
And maybe finally
I can sit down without feeling like
I’m supposed to be standing up.
Finally relaxed and finally free
Finally on the move to what I need
