Prompt / Lyrics
(spoken) Oh yeah… Mike White Cloudwalker said come on. What’s going on? I’m just sittin’ here mindin’ my own business, and all of a sudden you guys are ready to go — oh yeah, come on, let’s go. So somebody’s having a conversation behind our backs, that you heard about when you went up to the border, and now you’re bringing that conversation — that gossip — back to us. Verse 1 (spoken/storytelling) In my mind… who is this lady? I can’t help but look at her. I can’t even look in front of me — she has my heart. Taken prisoner — overjoyed. I could not help myself, just look at her… I could watch her all night long. Gentlemen, I’ll be right back — I see something I gotta take care of. I just gotta know this woman’s name. I gotta be brave enough to even speak to her. I’m gonna think of the right thing to say — I haven’t talked to a woman in years. I’m just gonna be myself. But she looks so familiar… I haven’t seen Stephanie in years, since I left the camp years ago. I wish I could find her again. Something in my heart calls me to this woman. I just gotta — I just gotta — I just gotta be bold and say what’s on my mind. Scene (dialogue) “Do you mind if I ask what’s your name?” “Not right now, you in the middle of something?” “Can I come back to your table later on?” “Sure.” “Well, my name is La’Don.” As I was walking away, she said, “La’Don?” “Yes, La’Don.” She said she once knew La’Don — they were in a camp together. They grew up together, they shared everything. It kinda looked like him. And I said to her, “You look like my Stephanie.” She said, “My name is Stephanie.” We looked at each other — it had been years. And our hearts just melted right on the spot. We were like two candles… wax melting together as one. Hook / Emotional Cry Oooooo I found my baby… Tears fall down my face — the joy inside, I never felt this much weight and love, so much joy… oo oo oh yes… she is my girl. (Background vocals) How could you just forget me, how oo ooo Tell me you care about me, na-na, no way Oh tell me it’s not true, oo oo owe, owe How could you owe, oweooo… Verse 2 (spoken) Blinded by the light, she told me things have changed — she’s moved on now. She never stopped loving me, I never stopped loving her. She gave me a kiss on the side of my face and told me, “Another time, another new beginning might come around.” Maybe we can be together — if not, we both need to just keep moving on. “Paxton,” she said, “Could I take you somewhere, just give you my last kiss?” She told me she needs to cut the cord, and I should be doing the same. Those past memories — the tent, the dirt, the filth, your disappearance for years — I’ve moved on. Let’s just call it quits. Let’s both take our new walks, our new journeys, in different directions, finding someone new, for new beginnings. Outro (spoken) I’ll never forget you, Stephanie. I’ll never forget you. (Background vocals reprise) How could you just forget me, how oo ooo… Tell me you care about me, na-na, no way… Oh tell me it’s
