God sent me down to earth

with a broken wing to learn to fly.

I’ll never forget the first time

I made my Mother cry.

She made me lots of promises

turns out she kept every one.

I was going to have to fly straight

to make it as her son.

She was my Mother and I am her Son.

Many would have given up

lost hope and let me go astray.

I would have wound up in prison

or worse I was on my way.

and nothing would appease me.

she took it
